Start with the machine architecture—not a fixed product package

Some OEM projects benefit from a compact, mechanically integrated unit. Others already have a suitable frame design and need matched control components. KENDORIC reviews both routes against the actual application.

Complete Integrated Web Guiding Unit

Supplied scope: guiding frame, controller, sensor and actuator as a matched assembly.

  • Standard frame sizes or a structure adapted to the machine layout
  • Manual or pneumatic splicing-table configuration when applicable
  • Suitable for OEMs that want to reduce separate mechanical integration work

Review inputs: web path, web width, roll direction, installation envelope, mounting surfaces and preferred splice operation.

Matched Components for OEM Integration

Supplied scope: controller, sensor and actuator selected as a compatible control package.

  • The OEM designs and manufactures the guiding frame or machine structure
  • Component choice follows material, sensing task, load and correction geometry
  • Suitable when the machine already has a defined mechanical concept

Review inputs: frame concept, pivot geometry, moving load, required stroke, sensor position, control interface and cable routing.

Priority Applications

Where label-machine OEMs typically review web guiding

A guiding point should be selected around the web path and the process section that needs a stable lateral entry position. It should not be added only because a machine has an unwind or rewind.

Narrow-web flexographic label presses

Candidate locations: after unwind, before the first print section, or before an inline finishing section.

Review: substrate range, press width, infeed geometry, draw direction, line speed and distance from sensor to correction frame.

Inspection, die-cutting and finishing equipment

Candidate locations: before inspection, die-cutting, foil or other position-sensitive finishing sections.

Review: incoming roll condition, printed-mark or edge reference, process entry span and available space around the module.

Intermittent rotary and letterpress machines

Candidate locations: machine infeed or before the printing/die-cutting section that requires a repeatable web entry path.

Review: intermittent motion, tension changes, web-support rollers, correction-frame load and sensor stability.

Digital label printing machines

Candidate locations: before the digital print engine, inspection module or inline converting section.

Review: material opacity, print-engine infeed requirements, web width range, line speed and clean installation access.

Integrated-Unit Fit

When an integrated unit is worth reviewing

An integrated web guiding unit is a practical candidate when the OEM needs a compact assembly and prefers not to engineer the frame, actuator mounting and component interfaces separately.

  • Narrow-web or space-constrained machine layouts
  • Unwind, pre-print, pre-die-cut, inspection or pre-rewind positions
  • New machines using a repeatable module layout
  • Retrofits where the existing web path can accept a complete frame
  • Projects that may require a manual or pneumatic splicing table

Engineering boundary: final suitability depends on web-wrap geometry, free-span length, moving mass, mounting rigidity and maintenance access. A compact frame is not automatically suitable for every narrow-web machine.

Component Roles

System components and selection boundaries

Each part must be selected as part of a closed-loop guiding system and checked against the machine's mechanics.

Controller

Receives the sensor signal and commands the actuator. Review operating mode, interface needs, response settings and operator access.

Ultrasonic sensor

A candidate for transparent, translucent or low-contrast web-edge applications because detection does not depend on visible contrast. Material and gap still require review.

Infrared sensor

A candidate for opaque webs with a clear, consistent edge. Reflectivity, printed areas and edge condition should be checked before selection.

Actuator

Moves the frame or steering mechanism. Stroke, thrust, speed, mounting geometry and moving load must match the mechanical design.

Optional splicing table

Supports manual or pneumatic splice preparation where the unwind workflow calls for it. Operator clearance and air supply are part of the review.

Selection note: the examples above identify candidates for review. Final controller, sensor, actuator and frame selection requires the actual application data.
